What is the Holle Company background?

Holle Formula has been a pioneer in biodynamic baby nutrition for over 90 years, originating in Arlesheim, Switzerland in 1933. As Switzerland’s first biodynamic processor, Holle set the foundation for organic and sustainable infant food, beginning with bread, cereals, grains, and baby porridges.

From the start, Holle embraced a holistic approach, ensuring its products aligned with ethical, environmental, and nutritional values. The company’s commitment to sustainability remains a core principle, shaping its organic farming practices and responsible sourcing.

Today, Holle is an international brand, present in over 50 countries, offering a comprehensive range of more than 90 baby and infant products. Despite its global expansion, Holle remains family-owned, staying true to its Swiss origins while continuously innovating to provide high-quality, organic nutrition for future generations.

What are the features that differentiate Holle from other formulas?

Holle formula stands out due to its biodynamic farming practices, simple ingredient list, and commitment to sustainability. Here’s what makes it unique:

  • Biodynamic & Organic Farming – Holle follows Demeter-certified biodynamic agriculture, which goes beyond standard organic farming by enhancing soil health and biodiversity.
  • Minimal Processing & Clean Ingredients – Unlike many formulas, Holle avoids synthetic additives, GMOs, and artificial preservatives, keeping its ingredient list simple and natural.

Sustainability & Ethical Sourcing – The company works with small organic farms, ensuring high animal welfare standards and environmentally responsible production.

Is European baby formula healthier than American?

European formulas must include DHA and exclude corn-based sugars as they are banned. EU organic rules are stricter, so ingredient lists are cleaner and healthier.

Our number one priority is the health and safety of your baby. We have a passion for making the formulas accessible for health-conscious parents. All of the products we sell are guaranteed to be 100% genuine and authentic.

We source them directly from the manufacturer and ship them straight to you, with every step being trackable. We manage the end-to-end process, from manufacturer through delivery to you, to ensure the product is maintained and handled properly throughout the entire process.

Why is the formula not available in supermarkets and other grocery stores?

Our products are regulated and approved by the food authority in the country where they are manufactured, which have a higher and more stringent food standards and enforcement than the FDA.

As they are international formulas they are not regulated by the FDA, due to being outside of the jurisdiction. To be sold in US stores food products must be explicitly approved by the FDA, for that reason they are only available from online retailers such as Grow Organic Baby.

Why are there different formula stages?

European formulas are designed in stages to align with a baby’s changing nutritional needs as they grow. The stages adjust levels of essential nutrients like iron, calcium, and vitamin D to support healthy development. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, EU formulas ensure babies receive the right balance of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates tailored to each stage of growth.

Stage PRE Infant Formula

Designed for infants from 0 to 6 months, it closely resembles Stage 1 formula in composition. Despite the stage name it is not intended for premature babies. The key distinction with Stage 1 is that Stage PRE does not contain starch, making it easier for newborns to digest. This ensures a gentle transition for infants while providing essential nutrients tailored to their early developmental needs.

Stage 1 Infant Formula

Designed to provide essential nutrition from birth, serving as either a breastfeeding supplement or full alternative. This formula stage is carefully designed to support healthy growth and development, ensuring infants receive a gentle, well-tolerated source of essential nutrients. Some Stage 1 formulas may also contain starch or maltodextrin to enhance energy content, making it a nutritionally complete choice for early infancy.

Stage 2 Infant Formula

Designed for babies 6 months and older, providing enhanced iron levels, vitamin D and calcium to support physical growth and strengthen bones and muscles, which is crucial as babies develop their motor skills at this age. Higher casein content makes it more filling than earlier stages, helping babies feel satisfied between feedings. With a balanced mix of vitamins and minerals, Stage 2 ensures continued healthy development while transitioning toward a more diverse diet that includes solids.

Stage 3 Follow On Formula

Designed for babies 10 months and older, it includes higher levels of iron, calcium, and vitamin D to support bone strength, muscle growth, and energy needs for active toddlers.

These formulas also contain Omega-3 (ALA) and Omega-6 fatty acids, crucial for brain, eye, and nervous system development. While most brands categorize Stage 3 for 10+ months, some variations exist where it is 12+ months.

Stage 4 Toddler Formula

For children 12 months and older, providing advanced nutrition beyond earlier stages. It provides higher levels of iron, calcium, and vitamin D, essential for bone strength, muscle function, and sustained energy as toddlers become more active.

This formula also includes Omega-3 (ALA) and Omega-6 fatty acids, which play a crucial role in brain, eye, and nervous system development. While most brands introduce Stage 4 at 12+ months, some variations exist where it is 24+ months.

Do I have to move up the stages based on age?

Higher stages of formula contain the necessary proteins and iron levels an older baby may need.

We always advise parents to choose the formula that corresponds to your baby's age to ensure that they are getting all of the formula benefits.

It does not have to be exact to the day, you can wait until your current supply is finished before moving forward. This is normal and is fine for up to several weeks or even a month.
