Sprout Infant Formula is an organic, vegan, milk free, dairy free, lactose-free, soy free baby formula produced in Australia.
It is a 100% plant-based formula, prepared using organic rice protein and organic pea protein. It contains coconut oil, not palm oil and is suitable for 0-12 months of age.
The ratio is 1 scoop to 2 oz of water.

Sprout is an organic certified, 100% plant based formula that contains no animal product or by-product. It is suitable for 0-12 months.
It is a lactose-free, certified vegan formula based on pea and rice protein. The organic ingredients contain all of your babies’ nutritional requirements, including DHA, proteins, vitamins, minerals (including calcium) and essential amino acids, all from plant sources.
It is suitable for babies experiencing difficulties digesting animal proteins and for vegan babies. The nutrient content is identical to regular infant milk based on cow's or goat's milk protein.
Vegan formulas taste different to milk based formula and may have a slightly bitter taste, which is common for Vegan formulas. As this is a specialty formula, we do not offer refunds or exchanges if your little one refuses to drink it.

Ratio of Formula to Water
The ratio is 1 scoop to 2 oz of water. One unpacked scoop of formula (using the scoop provided in every box of formula) to two ounces of water. One scoop is 8.8g/0.31 oz.
Optimal mixing temperature - Important to follow
The ideal water temperature for mixing plant based formula is 122F – 158 F (50-70 degrees Celsius), this will help the formula completely dissolve. Shaking the bottle for a few extra seconds before serving will also help to dissolve it more effectively. The warm water mixing temperature is important due to the different texture of rice-based formula compared to dairy based formula.
Formula Preparation Instructions
- Clean everything (bottle, teat and ring) in boiling water for 3 - 5 minutes
- Boil new clean water using the volumes in the feeding tables below. Do not use microwaved, artificially softened or repeatedly boiled water
- Cool to optimal mixing temperature: 122 F / 50 C
- Fill 2/3 of the bottle with the clean boiled water
- Using the measuring spoon provided and according to the instructions, add the correct number of scoops
- Level off with the back of a clean dry knife. Do not compress the powder
- Close the bottle
- Shake well until dissolved (more than 15 seconds). A small foam later should disappear by itself after a short time
- Add remaining water and shake lightly again until solution is evenly distributed and diluted
- Hold the bottle under cold running water. Cool to drinking temperature: 98.6 F / 37 C
- Always test the temperature
- Ready to feed!
Can I prepare the formula without boiling the water?
While many parents do not boil the water they are preparing the formula with, it is advised to do so as it can eliminate bacteria.
Care Instructions
- Store formula powder in a cool, dry place. Do not refrigerate
- Keep airtight and use within 3 weeks
- Do not add extra scoops of powder or mix with anything else (such as regular cow milk)
- If left sitting at room temperature, you should use a bottle of prepared formula within 1 hour
- If refrigerated, a prepared bottle of formula should be used within 2-12 hours
- Expiration date is indicated on each box in the European format Day/Month/Year

LO is 5 months, and has been on Sprout for almost 3 months now. Mama was sadly not able to breastfeed at all. This is the 7th formula we've tried and the best so far in almost every category.
We love Sprout because it has clean, safe, organic ingredients, its affordable, and most of all its CMPA FRIENDLY (finally the congestion is gone and rash is going away!!)
However, some things that are worth noting:
You really need to mix it with warm water for it to dissolve - not room temp, and you need to shake it well and shake it once or twice mid-feed because it settles out quickly.
Baby has extra smelly gas and poop. Not sulphur, just strong.
Baby dropped from 75th to 55th weight percentile in first month on Sprout, then stabilized. Not sure if that was a formula thing or inevitable for his growth rate.
High urine output. Doesn't seem to be an issue other than having to change diapers more often but is still strange. We tested it by switching him back temporarily to an Amino Acid Formula and he was noticeably less wet. Urine increased again when back on Sprout.
He doesn't always seem satisfied after feeding. Sometimes needs an extra ounce or early feeding. He also doesn't sleep as long at night between bottles because he gets hungry sooner, which means we're up more at night. Pediatrician is unconcerned and just says to feed him when he's hungry, but it feels excessive. Sprout nutrition facts are in the safe range but list lower percentages of fat and protein than the other formulas we've tried (Kendamil Cow, Kendamil Goat, Bobbie, Nutramigen, PurAmino, NeoCate) and I have to wonder if this has anything to do with it. We're not expressly vegan and have begun supplementing with an Amino Acid Formula for peace of mind. But he is otherwise developing normally as a happy, healthy, active, curious, and fun little guy.
Love that this is an all organic and plant based formula. The one issue with this formula is it tends to clog our bottles. We found that making it on demand (as opposed to prepping and warming) works best for us. Also it is less likely to clog if you shake it throughout feeding / and or finish the feeding in 5 to 10 minutes.
