Why the recall headlines are about a different company

Quick Answer
Yes. Sprout Organic infant formula is made in Australia, complies with the stringent Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) infant formula regulations, and is formulated as complete nutrition for babies from 0 to 12 months. If a search for "Sprout" brings up recalls and heavy-metal lawsuits, those belong to an entirely unrelated US company, Sprout Organics (Sprout Foods, Inc.), which makes baby food pouches and snacks. It shares a similar name with Sprout Organic Pty Ltd, the Australian company, but has no connection to the formula we sell.
Sprout Organic vs Sprout Organics: Two Different Companies
The names are one letter apart, and search engines and AI assistants mix them up all the time. Here is the difference.
| Sprout Organic | Sprout Organics | |
|---|---|---|
| What it makes | Plant-based infant formula, toddler drink and Essential Shake | Baby food pouches, puffs and toddler snacks |
| Based in | Australia | United States |
| Company | Sprout Organic Pty Ltd, an Australian plant-based formula company | Sprout Foods, Inc. |
| In the news | Not recalls or baby food lawsuits | Voluntary recall of Sweet Potato Apple and Spinach pouches for possible lead (September 2025), and lawsuits over heavy metals in baby food |
If you saw a recall notice or a lawsuit ad that mentions Sprout, look at the product. A food pouch or a puffs snack is Sprout Organics. A plant-based powdered infant formula made from pea and rice protein is Sprout Organic.
How Sprout Organic Infant Formula Is Regulated
Sprout Organic infant formula is regulated by Food Standards Australia New Zealand. FSANZ sets the minimum and maximum levels of protein, fat, vitamins and minerals an infant formula sold in Australia must contain, the same role that the FDA plays in the United States.
Sprout is Vegan Australia certified. Its protein is sourced from organic pea and rice, its fat from coconut oil rather than palm oil, its DHA from algae and its vitamin D from plants. It is fortified with the nutrients plant diets can lack, including B12, iron, calcium and iodine, and it contains no dairy, lactose or soy.

Is Plant-Based Formula Safe for Babies?
A plant-based formula is safe for an infant when it is made and regulated as an infant formula. That is the line between Sprout and a homemade recipe or a plant milk. Oat, almond and soy milks are not formula and should never replace it. Read why homemade vegan formula can be dangerous for the details.
Sprout is dairy-free, but it is not a hypoallergenic formula. If your baby has a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy, speak with your pediatrician before switching. Our guide to DHA and B12 in vegan formula covers the nutrients plant-based diets most often miss, and the Sprout Organic vegan formula guide covers what is in the tin.
