How do the new US tariffs affect my orders?
A recent Executive Order issued by President Trump has ended the duty-free exemption for all shipments from all countries for packages valued under $800.
This long standing de minimis exemption, which has been in place since 1932 and affects over 4 million packages per day, has ended effective 29th August 2025.
The checkout price is the final price and all US import duties, taxes and tariffs have been prepaid by us, there are no additional fees, our pricing is clear and upfront.
Why is formula produced in the EU and Australia of higher quality than US formula?
There are two main reasons for EU and Australian manufactured formula being healthier and safer for your baby.
1. Higher standards for formula ingredients
EU and Australia regularly update and constantly enforce formula ingredient regulation compliance to ensure the latest food tech standards for infant health and safety are met. The FDA has not reviewed and updated baby formula ingredient requirements since 1998.
Many common ingredients found in US formulas are banned in Australia and the EU, such as GMO’s, corn syrup, rice/glucose syrup, fructose, or table sugars.
Due to the high prevalence of heavy metal contamination of soil and water across the US, most US produced baby formula is found to have potentially harmful levels of contaminants, including heavy metals like lead and arsenic
2. Higher and stricter qualification criteria to meet the organic certification standards
The farming standards required for organic certification are higher in the EU and Australia.
The organic standards in the EU and Australia guarantee that the formula is free of hormones, GMOs, added sugars, artificial preservatives, antibiotics and pesticides.
HiPP and Holle meet even higher standards, such as Demeter and Biodynamic standards respectively.

Natural milk fats with minimal vegetable oils
All milk-based formulas generally remove milk fat and add vegetable oil
Carbohydrate Source
Lactose is the primary carbohydrate. At least 30% of the carbohydrates found in baby formula must come directly from lactose
There are no set minimums for carbohydrate source so many contain corn syrup, glucose syrup solids, or other processed sweeteners as a primary carbohydrate source
Heavy Metals Regulation
(such as lead, arsenic, mercury, and cadmium)
The EU has strict heavy metal limits for baby formulas and food. The regulations are continuously updated and monitored, ensuring that baby food is as safe as possible.
Maximum arsenic levels: 0.01 mg/kg in formula (EU) vs. 0.015 mg/kg (U.S.)
Lead limits: Stricter in Europe due to concerns over neurodevelopmental effects
Cadmium & mercury: More heavily restricted in the EU, with ongoing
The FDA does not have the same stringent regulations as the EU when it comes to heavy metals. The FDA has proposed action levels, which are higher than the EU and there is no mandatory testing for lead, cadmium, mercury, arsenic, PFOAs or PAHs
Iron
EU formula regulations specify lower iron levels, closer to the amount found naturally in breast milk, more in line with the ratio that the body can naturally absorb
US formulas generally contain higher iron levels, emphasizing quantity over bioavailability. Excessive iron intake can lead to adverse effects for growth, development and the gastrointestinal system
GMOs
Prohibited in EU formulas
US formulas may contain GMOs
Added Sugars
No artificial sweeteners or corn syrup.
May contain added sugars or artificial sweeteners
Nutrient Profiles
Designed to mimic breast milk, with a greater focus on naturally occurring nutrients such as prebiotics and probiotics for gut health, and compulsory DHA & ARA for brain and eye development
Nutrient profiles vary as DHA & ARA is not mandatory and pre and probiotics are less common formula ingredients
Staged Nutrition
Each stage is designed to meet the specific nutritional needs for the healthy development of babies for that specific age group:
Stage 1 (0-6 months) – Closest to breast milk, higher in whey protein.
Stage 2 (6-12 months) – Adjusted for infants starting solids, higher in casein.
Stage 3+ (12+ months) – Toddler formulas for continued nutrition support.

Regulation and Oversight
Stricter regulations in the EU prohibit many synthetic additives commonly found in American formulas. Compliance with the regulations is rigorously monitored and enforced through ongoing 3rd party testing
US formulas are regulated by the FDA, however regulations are less stringent, and compliance is not monitored or enforced

European formula orders are shipped from the Netherlands.

Ratio of Formula to Water
The ratio for our EU produced formula is 1 unpacked scoop of formula (using the scoop provided in every box of formula) to one ounce of water.
Sprout Infant is 1 unpacked scoop of formula to 2 oz of water. The Sprout Toddler mixing ratio is 4 scoops to 200ml (six and two thirds oz) of water.
See table below for indicative feeding chart based on age.
Formula Preparation Instructions
Clean everything (bottle, teat and ring) in boiling water for 3 - 5 minutes
Boil new clean water using the volumes in the feeding tables below. Do not use microwaved, artificially softened or repeatedly boiled water
Cool to optimal mixing temperature: 122 F / 50 C
Fill 2/3 of the bottle with the clean boiled water
Using the measuring spoon provided and according to the instructions, add the correct number of scoops - 1 scoop per 1 fluid ounce of water
Level off with the back of a clean dry knife. Do not compress the powder
Close the bottle
Shake well until dissolved (more than 15 seconds). A small foam later should disappear by itself after a short time
Add remaining water and shake lightly again until solution is evenly distributed and diluted
Hold the bottle under cold running water. Cool to drinking temperature: 98.6 F / 37 C
Always test the temperature
Ready to feed!
Can I prepare the formula without boiling the water?
While many parents do not boil the water they are preparing the formula with, it is advised to do so as it can eliminate bacteria.
Care Instructions
Store formula powder in a cool, dry place. Do not refrigerate
Keep airtight and use within 3 weeks
Do not add extra scoops of powder or mix with anything else (such as regular cow milk)
If left sitting at room temperature, you should use a bottle of prepared formula within 1 hour
If refrigerated, a prepared bottle of formula should be used within 2-12 hours
Expiration date is indicated on each box in the European format Day/Month/Year

My baby has bad allergies and issues with dairy, do you have formula to help with that ?

Our baby has a cow's milk protein allergy and, unfortunately, even the "hypoallergenic" and "goat's milk" formulas usually STILL have some amount of cow's milk in them (yes, even the fancy European ones). In U.S. the only options for our baby are filled with processed ingredients, that we would never eat ourselves, and have corn syrup as the very fist ingredient - plus our baby can't seem to stand the taste and they do not sit well in his system (why would they? they're just sugar and chemicals).
Sprout is the only only infant formula that has worked for him - so much so, that we're willing to ship it from Australia to New York City! I wish it was sold here in the U.S. because it has truly been a lifesaver for our child and I would love for it to be more accessible for us and other families who desperately need a better alternative for their children. Our 4 month old baby is finally gaining weight and looking and acting healthier - thank goodness for Sprout!

Myself and my partner are both lactose intolerant and I wasn’t 100% sure if I was going to be able to breast feed. I did hours of searching for a formula that wouldn’t upset my baby’s stomach when I was 9 months pregnant. At the hospital my baby was given a milk based formula and was immediately experiencing lactose intolerant symptoms.
